Serological Review of Markers of Viral Hepatitis Type B
HELCL J., NĚMEČEK V., ŠVANDOVÁ E., FRITZ P., KÖNIG J., TOULCOVÁ A., BENEŠ Č.

Summary:

In 1996 as part of multipurpose serological reviews also a serological review of markers of viral hepatitis B was made. The authors examined sera of 1547 subjects collected in the capital of Prague, the East, North and West Bohemian regions. The total prevalence of HBsAg was 0.66% (2.6x lower than in 1975), anti-HBs 6.63% (2.2x lower than in 1975) and anti-HBc 6.95% (in 1975 it was not assessed). The relatively low prevalence of VHB and its age distribution is consistent with the notified prevalence of this disease in the Czech Republic and its declining trend during the last 12 years, when between 1985 and 1996 the total incidence of VHB declined 3.6x.

Key words: serological reviews - prevalence of VHB markers - incidence of VHB.
