Summary:
The authors evaluate hitherto assembled experience with 25 children with oesophageal varices who were treated
between 1993 and 1998 by repeated sclerotizations of oesophageal varices. Because there exists already a standard
technique of sclerotization and it causes no problems if the equipment is adequate and is used by an experienced
endoscopist, the authors are interested rather in late complications, long-term results and the general comfort of
these children. The comfort has markedly improved as compared with the period before sclerotization was used.
