Sexual Orientation and Homosexual Experiences in Female Schizophrenic Patients
Mansour-Musová H., Weiss P.

Psychiatrická léčebna Horní Beřkovice, ředitel MUDr. J. Tomeček Sexuologický ústav 1. LF UK a VFN, Praha, přednosta doc. MUDr. J. Zvěřina, CSc.

Summary:

Autors have compared answers of 60 female patients (18-59 years) with diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder with the answers of 703 women of the same age from the representative survey of sexual behavior in general population in the Czech Republic. While these samples did not differ in the number of individuals expressing homosexual (2 % of patients) or bisexual (17 % of patients) orientation (other 4 % of patients are not sure) from the general population, reasonably more patients admit homosexual experiences in their past history (17 % vs. 8 %). The authors assume that more frequent homosexual experiences in schizophrenic female patients are due to the disinhibition of their sexual behavior as well, as to the surrogate manners of sexual satisfaction during long term hospitalizations.

Key words: schizophrenic disorder, sexual orientation, homosexual behavior.
