Summary:

       Surgical rehabilitation of the lower innervation area of the facial nerve is the last, though impercet, solution of prolonged deficiency of the expression of the lower part of the face caused by paresis of the facial nerve. The authors describe the indications, surgical technique incl. controversial surgery and the initial postoperative results assembled in four patients. As a basis they use the anatomical and functional situation of a paretic facial expression whereby they emphasize critical evaluation of surgical possibilities to improve the situation.
