Summary:

In comparing the duration of hospitalization of children admitted to children wards in the Czech Republic in 2004 without an accompanying person (mean duration of hospitalization 5.4 days) and a group of children who were admitted with it (mean duration of hospitalization 3.5 days) the authors arrived at the conclusion that the duration of hospitalization in the two groups was significantly different at 1% level of significance. The calculation of cost revealed that the duration of hospitalization of the child without the accompanying person was more expensive as far as the compensation paid by health insurance companies

Key words: child hospitalization, accompanying person during hospitalization
