Several recent randomized studies have proved that laparoscopic technique is feasible, safe and has been associated
with better cosmetics, less pain, faster recovery, lower incidence of infectious complications, and shorter
postoperative stay. However, these advantages are not substantial for patients with malignant diseases. New published
randomized trials (laparoscopic gastrectomy, colectomy, nephrectomy) have proved that long-term survival data did
not show any detrimental effect of laparoscopy in comparison with historic studies of open resections.
