Glomus Tumour of the Tympanic Membrane

Summary:

       The authors present the case of a very rare localization of a glomus tumour on the tympanic membrane. On otoscopic examination the lesions had the appearance of granulation tissue and was in the area of the upper quadrants of the tympanic membrane. In the differential diagnosis the authors suspected chronic otitis and granulomatous myringitis resp. The final diagnosis was based on histological examination. The tumour was removed together with the affected portion of the tympanic membrane and adjacent skin of the external auditory meatus. Myringoplasty was performed. After six months the anatomical results is excellent. Functional result - conduction hearing disorder 20 dB. No other local or remote lesions of the chemodectoma was found in this case.
