Summary:

The prerequisite of the study is clinical experience with the pathogenetic processing of the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001 in New York. On a series of analogue scales the authors assessed the processing of the event in groups of probands (103 participants of the Czechoslovak psychotherapeutic Conference in Trenčianské Teplice in 2001 and 86 students of the Medical and Arts Faculty, Comenius University Bratislava). The assessed values were digitalized and evaluated by simple statistical methods. From the results ensues a high variability of processing. The group includes a sub-group of probands for whom the event is a significant personal issue with which they have to cope. The sub-groups is a minority. Fears as regards health consequences are negligibly rare. The relatively frequent ambivalent attitude to the event is worth mentioning. Differences by occupation and gender are small and with the exception of one not significant.

        Key words: terrorism, mental processing.
