Surgical Complications and Peroperative Problems of Cochlear Implantations
Profant M., Kabátová Z.

Summary:

Cochlear implantation is a standard, reliable surgical method with a low incidence of postoperative complications. In the presented paper authors analyze the incidence of postopera- tive complications in a series of 32 implanted patients and compare their experience with the information in the literature. Authors divide complications into two categories, major and minor, according to the way of their management. The third group is represented by peroperative problems. There was no major complication in the presented series. Four minor complications in the series of 32 patients make this technique a safe surgical operation in the hands of an experienced otolaryn- gologist - ear surgeon.

Key words: cochlear implantation, complications, stimulation of the facial nerve, flap necrosis, obliteration of cochlea, receiver, electrode array.
