Summary:

The authors found in 2001 that chronically dialyzed patients do not develop marked cognitive disorders in direct association with dialyzation treatment. The authors proceeded with this research – they used tests for detection of milder forms of cognitive disorders and extended the group of investigated patients and sought a suitable control group. The objective of the present research was to assess whether chronically dialyzed patients develop cognitive disorders and whether their possible development is associated with the period of dialyzation treatment or the patient’s age. With regard to the results of previous work they tried to map and evaluatze objectively the social background of chronically dialyzed patients. The results lead to the conclusion that chronic dialyzation treatment markedly changes the patient’s life but does not lead to deterioration of his cognitive function.

Key words: mild cognitive disorder, memory learning test, social and mental background.
