Summary:
The objective of the investigation was to assess whether in patients with dysphagia impaired motility of the
oesophagus is found more frequently. The motility of the oesophagus was investigated by dynamic scintigrap-
hy of the oesophagus. In a group of 76 subjects (37 controls and 39 patients with dysphagia where organic
affection of the upper digestive tract was not found), the authors proved, using dynamic scintigraphy, of the
oesophagus, a significant prolongation of the median transit time of the bolus through the oesophagus (p <
0.01). The classical picture of dynamic scintigraphy of the oesophagus in patients with dysphagia comprises
also antiperistalsis (p < 0.0001); retention of radioactivity was also recorded significantly more frequently (p <
0.001). Dynamic scintigraphy of the oesophagus is a very simple and useful examination method in the
diagnosis of functional disorders of the oesophagus in patients with dysphagia.
