Summary: The paper reviews epidemiology of spinal fractures. Principles of prehospital care are stressed. Great importance is ascribed to early and proper
administration of methylprednisolone. Two components of care are stressed: precise preanesthetic monitoring and early surgical stabilization of spinal
fractures.
