Summary:
The control examination at the spot has been done in 51 screening workplaces during 2003–2004
within the framework of re-accreditation. All the workplaces had an ultrasound apparatus at their
disposal, including a probe of minimal 7.5 MHz. The core cut biopsy was not performed at five
workplaces, but most of them got hold of the device for biopsy during the process of approval. The
findings were always described up to three days at most and all the physicians fulfilled the
professional criteria. A lower number of screening examinations (below 5 thousands) were the
problem especially at workplaces outside larger centers with a small area of patients. The quality
of mammography devices with the mean age of 3.6 years was excellent and only 9 workplaces were
older than 8 years. All the centers were equipped with a relevant mammography negatoscope
(luminosity from 3,400 to 8,000 cd/m2) and had remedies and phantomas for securing quality control
available. More serious shortcomings became obvious during the audit (4 workplaces), 5 of them
were unable to supply the data in electronic form. In the evaluation of quality of workplaces there
was a high level of recall rate with the average above 22% (even more than 60% at one workplace).
Key words:
screening of breast cancer – re-accreditation – control at the spot – quality of screening
workplaces
