Summary:

Congenital hypopituitarism ia a rare disease. It may be potentially caused by an injury during delivery with ischemia and subsequent disruption of the hypophysis stalk in newborns with asphyxia. The resulting disruption of axonal transport of releasing hormones, hypoplasia of adenohypophysis, and the formation of ectopic neurohypophysis without clinical signs of diabetes insipidus develop. Magnetic resonance of hypophysis can reveal these changes. The authors refer to four cases with these findings.

Key words: hypopituitarism – magnetic resonance of hypophysis – growth hormone deficiency
