Summary:
Children with high-grade gliomas have still a very poor prognosis, despite the improvement of diagnostic and therapautic approaches. Looking for new therapeutic options may improve the prospects of these children.
The authors summarize the results and contribution of the current therapeutic modalities (neurosurgical approach, XRT and chemotherapy) and present a modern therapeutic pattern for children with high-risk glial tumours of the central nervous system using concomitant chemoradiotherapy (XRT and temozolomide) and anti-angiogenic treatment with thalidomide.
Key words:
malignant gliomas of the central nervous system, concomitant chemoradiotherapy, temozolomide, thalidomide
