Summary:
Discovered in 1830, paraffin oil, a purified hydrocarbon from petroleum, has been used in the past as an augmentation material in various
parts of the human body, for restoration body defects or aesthetic body contouring. We illustrated the case of an 18-year-old guy
who self-injected some paraffin oil (Baby Johnson’s Oil®) in his lips, cheek and chin, with aesthetical purpose.
We showed the classical course and proper management of paraffinoma’s lesions. The need for complete excision of all involved tissue
to treat the condition successfully is illustrated, and a clinical, pathological and histological discussion is presented. To our knowledge
paraffinoma of the face caused by a self-injection of mineral oil has been never reported in literature.
Key words:
paraffin oil, paraffinoma, self-injection
