Seidl Z., Vaněčková M., Mašek M.

Radiodiagnostická klinika 1. LF UK a VFN, Praha přednosta doc. MUDr. J. Daneš, CSc.

Summary:

Craniopharyngioma is the extraaxial, epitelial, slowly growing tumor, with the benign picture given by histology, but with malign behavior and frequent ivagination into surrounding structures. There exist 2 main hypotheses about its origin: embryonal and metaplastic. Differential diagnostics of craniopharyngioma is decisive for clinical treatment of patient, nevertheless, even if there are some characteristic features in the image of MR (cystic character, machine oil cyst, calcification), interpretation is not easy and can imitate another tumors in the selar region. Authors demonstrate on their cohort of patients some MR images of tumor which are difficult to interpret and which can resemble another expansive lesion.

Key words: craniopharyngioma – magnetic resonance – selar expansive lesion
