This review is aimed at the method of intracerebral microdialysis. Principles of the method, technical aspects of monitoring, possible complications and limitations of the intracerebral microdialysis are presented. Clinical applications of this method in cerebral ischemia, subarachnoid hemorrhage, head injury, aswell as in other potential areas are discussed. Intracerebralmicrodialysis appears to be a safe and reliable method for the experimental monitoring of brain extracellular metabolism.
