Meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) is in severe cases responsible for respiratory failure, often non-responding to the standard therapy. Positive results of the recent studies indicate the possible benefit of bronchoalveolar lavage with diluted exogenous surfactant or perfluorocarbons.
