Summary:
Urological complaints in diseases which interfere with nervous structures participating in the control
of micturition are very frequent.Regularly problems with micturition are encountered in multiple
sclerosis, discopathies and diabetes. The incidence of these complaints is frequently associated with
the duration and severity of the disease. To assess the severity of complaints and the degree of
impairment of the controlling structures urodynamic examination is important.Based on objective
findings then treatment is provided without the necessity of empiricism.During a two-year period
(1998 –2000)the authors subjected to urological and urodynamic examination 164 patients with multiple
sclerosis,diabetes and discopathies.The group comprised 96 women and 68 men.22.7 %patients with
multiple sclerosis were subjectively asymptomatic from the urological aspect, despite this in 20 %an
objective urodynamic pathology was found which called for treatment. All examined diabetics and
patients with discopathies had urological complaints.Urodynamic abnormalities were proved in 88 %
of diabetics and in 91 %patients with discopathies.Subjectively reported improvement was achieved
in 59 %urologically symptomatic patients with multiple sclerosis,52 %diabetic patients and 27 %
patients with discopathies.Objectively proved partial or complete restoration of urodynamic parame-
ters was recorded in 72 %patients with multiple sclerosis,27 %diabetics and 10 %patients with
discopathies. The reported results justify early indication of urological examination in all patients with
multiple sclerosis and in urologically symptomatic diabetic patients and those with discopathies.
According to the severity of the revealed pathology then treatment is started with the objective to
influence the symptomatology and to protect the upper urinary pathways.
