Summary:

Churg-Strauss syndrome (ChSS) is a rarely occurring primary systemic vasculitis. From a pathologicalanatomical viewpoint, the disease develops in three stages: pre-vasculitic, vasculitic and post-vasculitic. The clinical presentation includes in early stages of the disease bronchial asthma. Often this is a more severe, corticoid-dependent bronchial asthma. In later stages of the disease, other organs suffer damage, especially the heart, gastrointestinal system, skin and nervous system. The nervous system lesions are predominantly peripheral, most often in the form of mononeuritis multiplex or polyneuropathy, or the disease manifests with cranial nerve neuropathy. The laboratory findings include eosinophilia (more than 10%), increased values of inflammatory markers, anemia, increased IgE values, positive antinuclear antibodies and rheumatoid factor. We present 2 case reports of patients in whom Churg-Strauss syndrome was uncovered as the cause of peripheral nervous system lesion.

Key words: Churg-Strauss syndrome, vasculitis, polyneuropathy, mononeuritis multiplex, eosinophilia
