Summary:

Skin infections are a frequent complication associated with transplantation of haematopoietic stem cells, as due to reduced immunity the patients develop otherwise quite rare opportune infections. The manifestations may be localized only in the skin or affect also other organs. As an example of disseminated infection the authors present the case of a 48-year-old man treated by allogenic transplantation of peripheral stem cells who developed seven months after transplantation disseminated skin aspergillosis. Concurrently signs of cytomegaloviral and bacterial infection were detected and despite intense anti-infectious therapy the patient died. In immunosuppressed patients it is important to keep in mind the increasing incidence of various skin infections which may take an atypical course and have a very adverse prognosis.
