Summary:
The authors evaluate their experience with the CT examination of the hip joint before reconstruc-
tion of the acetabulum involving three-dimensional reconstruction of the joint. Preoperative
examination of the hip joint when planning surgery involves accurate measurement of the size of
the acetabulum and evaluation of the quality of the hip joint. This helps the surgeon to select the
type and size of the endoprosthesis and a safe surgical procedure. The present work is focused on
examination of the state after dysplasia of the hip joint before a reconstruction operation, it
evaluates parameters important for the type and size of the prosthesis and presents the most suitable
examination protocol and algorithm. The examined pathological joints were divided into those in
situ, subluxated and luxated joints. The assessed values were compared with normal joints, a control
group of anatomical preparations and normal data reported in the literature. As controls measure-
ments were taken in a group of 47 anatomical preparations of hip joints.
