Summary:
Cases of malignant tumours of the larynx in childhood are very rare. There are ab out 60
cases described in the literature until today. A supraglottic laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma in
an eleven-year-old child was diagnosed and treated at the E.N.T. Clinic of the 2 nd Faculty of the Charles University of Prague at the end of 1999. The girl was operated by horizontal laryngectomy
and resection of the radix of the tongue and cervical lymph node dissection. This was followed by
actinotherapy (60,4 Gy). Therapy was well tolerated. The only problem was swallowing which resolved
by special logopedic care. Three months after operation the girl was decannulated. The patient is
during the check-up examination in the course of six months without recurrence of the original disease.
