Summary:

Objective: Analysis of frequency of percutaneous interventional methods under X-ray or US guidance in severe acute pancreatitis during the period 1999–2000 in VFN Praha. Material and methods: The authors demonstrate in 252 percutaneous interventional procedures the possibilities and frequency of their application in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis. Results:More than one fifth of interventional procedures was undertaken in acute pancreatitis. The majority of them were fine needle aspirations and drainages of fluid collections. Biopsies, bile duct drainages and extractions of residual stones are only a small fraction. Conclusion: Interventional procedures under X-ray or US guidance form an essential part of treatment of acute pancreatitis and its complications.

Key words: acute pancreatitis – biopsy – drainage – fine needle aspiration
