The paper deals with the development of health insurance in the Slovak Republic from 1992 and the development of revisory medicine. The author describes the creation of organizational, personnel, legislative and internal conditions for the work of revisory medicine officers in the National Insurance Company (1993) and General Health Insurance Company (from 1994 till now). In the final part the author discusses possible improvement of revisory activities in the General Health InsuranceCompany, in the particular as regards revision of drug prescription.
