Summary:
The authors compare findings obtained by magnetic resonance and arthroscopy in 140 patients with
a traumatic case-history. The evaluation is divided into two groups - meniscoligamentous affections
and latent bone lesions. Agreement in menisci was recorded in 92.8%, in affections of the cruciate
ligaments in 95.9%. Latent bone fractures were diagnosed in 25% of injuries of the knee joint, incl.
17.8% which were associated with meniscoligamentous affections. When evaluating chondropathies
as a secondary finding in traumatic affections of the knee joint the agreement between the standard
projection and arthroscopy was less close. Therefore when a chondropathy is suspected the authors
use SPGR sequence with suppression of adipose tissue. The most accurate diagnosis of chondropat-
hies is however MR arthrography which is used as a standard procedure in the above diagnosis.
Key words:
arthroscopy of the knee - MR examination of the knee joint - lesion of the menisci and
ligaments of the knee - knee injury
