Summary:
CT colonography is a modern examination method in the
diagnostics of disease of the large intestine. Its advantage
is a minimal invasiveness, correct pre-operative staging,
the possibility of the examination of an intestine
with stenotizing tumors after an unsuccessful colonoscopy,
as well as detection of extracolonic findings. Using
CT colonography as a screening method is discussed.
A disadvantage is its expensiveness and a radiation risk.
Necessary preconditions for a high-quality imaging are
a quality multi-detector CT apparatus, sophisticated
data-processing software, a carefully prepared patient
and an educated radio-diagnostician. Authors explore
file of 43 patients in view of classification, clinical relevance
and effect on subsequent therapeutic plan in extracolonic
findings, which are additive benefits of CT colonography
as mentioned above.
Key words:
CT colonography, extracolonic findings,
