Summary: Cranio-cerebral trauma belongs to the most frequently performed examinations in the
all emergency and trauma centers. Fast and exact diagnostics of the brain or neurocranium
trauma type is crucial for early beginning of the treatment of the victim. The
authors present their three-years experience with the cranio-cerebral trauma assessment
with the sixteen-detector-row computed tomography and evaluate the increased
quality of the diagnostics. Multi-detector examination does not lead to fundamental
changes to imaging of the brain damage itself, but it exceptionally contributes to easier
the evaluation of the skeleton injury including simultaneous evaluation of the facial
skeleton and explanation of the symptoms arising from the injury of the neural or
vascular structures passing through the basis cranii interna.
