Summary:
The study was aimed at evaluation of possible improvement of pressure conditions
in the middle ear after OMA by means of autoinflation using a balloon.
Two groups of children were investigated, who displayed the tympanometric B curve two weeks
after the OMA therapy began – a group with autoinflation (group I, 42 ears) and a group without
autoinflation (group II, 38 ears).
The tympanometric control examination two weeks after the beginning of the therapy revealed
an improvement in 20 children of group I and 12 children of the group II. The control examination
after 4 weeks revealed a significant improvement in 32 children of group I and 18 children of
group II (P=0.008).
The results of the study indicate the improvement of pressure conditions in the middle ear of
children with OMA who practiced the aeration of middle ear by means of autoinflation.
