Summary: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a relatively new histological diagnosis, which
developed in the beginning of the 1990ties. Immunohistochemical examination is
necessary for establishing the diagnosis.
GIST is the most frequent mesenchymal tumor, origination in the digestive tract. It
represents less than 1% of tumors of gastrointestinal tract, but the incidence at this clinic
has been steadily increasing. The authors therefore draw attention to typical clinical
and radiodiagnostic symptoms of the tumor describing several cases.
