Summary:

Crohn’s disease may be encountered in any portion of the digestive tract. Histological changes in the gastric and duodenal region can be detected in as many as 75 % patients but almost always also other portions of the small and large intestine are afflicted. Anamnestic data therefore are not typical and the diagnosis is based on a series of endoscopic, X-ray and histological findings. Microscopic evidence of granuloma – as the only pathognomic sign succeeds on average in one third of the patients, another typical finding is evidence of focal Helicobacter pylori negative gastritis. The basis of therapy are corticoids, supplemented by immunosuppressive and antisecretory treatment. The authors confirm data from the literature on their own group of 11 patients with a gastroduodenal localization of the disease.

Key words: Crohn’s disease – gastroduodenal affection – endoscopic biopsy – diagnosis – microgranulomas
