Summary:
The scope of options for the inguinal hernias management is wide. However, in case of major scrotal hernias, the
Lichtenstein hernioplasty, using a mesh, or the Prolen Hernia System (PHS), are the most commonly used methods. Only in
cases of generalized malignant disorders and cardiopulmonary insufficiencies, the procedure is contraindicated. Postoperative
haematoma, mesh infection, deterioration of the pulmonary functions, resp. deterioration of the cardiac venous return and testicular
atrophy are the risks of the procedure. The authors present a case-review of a 48-year old male with bilateral scrotal hernias,
operated in two stages according to Lichtenstein.
