ABPM– 24-hour Ambulatory Blood PressureMonitoring – has become a useful tool for the blood pressure evaluation, diagnosis of hypertension and management of hypertension in adults and children. The advantage of ABPM is to obtain multiple blood pressure values through the whole day, including night, good reproducibility and better correlation of results with target organ damage comparing with office blood pressure measurement. There are only some technical problems regarding the application of this method in infants and toddlers. Technical mode and interpretation of results have been standardized for both adults and children. There are special nomograms for evaluation of ABPM. The nomograms are applied with the assistance of a special ABPM- device software and enables good interpretation. Knowledge and following the rules of the method give the possibility for extensive practical use of ABPMalso in specialized pediatric centres on out-patient base.
