Summary:
Nine patients with loco-regionally advanced head and neck tumours were treated
between October 2001 and March 2002 at the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology,
University Hospital Královské Vinohrady. All patients were irradiated using the 3-D conformal
radiotherapy technique. The minimal total dose was 70 Gy. Amiphostine at a dose of 500 mg i.v.
per fraction was administered concomitantly. Complete response was recorded in all patients
with acceptable acute toxicity. Acute mucosal reaction was minimal in 4 patients and moderate
in 3 others. Severe acute reaction due to mycotic infection was recorded only in 2 patients.
Because of the short follow-up, therapeutic outcome and late effects are not referred.
