Summary:
The aim of the non-interventional clinical study in routine conditions of outpatient psychiatry and neurology
departments in Slovakia was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of escitalopram in patients with atypical depression
and in patients with non-atypical depression. The next aim of the study was to identify clinical characteristics
of atypical depression. Effect of the treatment has been evaluated by CGI-S. After eight weeks significant
improvement was demonstrated in majority of patients in both atypical and non-atypical depression groupes:
atypical depression – 40% normal, 39% borderline mentally ill, 18% milddly ill, 3% moderately ill. Non-atypical
depression – 28% normal, 33% borderline mentally ill, 28% middly ill, 10 % moderately ill and 1% markedly ill
patients. The start of therapeutic effect was faster in patients with atypical depression. Even though the results
were better in patients with atypical depression, because of the worse state in baseline in patients with non-atypical
depression the effect of their treatment was lower. The results of the non-interventional clinical study can
be accepted as useful completion of the dates from „real world“to the spectrum of results from research concerning
this common form of depression.
Key words:
atypical depression, noninterventional clinical study, escitalopram.
