Summary:
Patients hospitalized in ICUs for sepsis create a heterogenic group in which marked interindividual differences could be found in immune response
to infectious agents or traumatic insult. Dysfunction of humoral and cellular immunity is well marked. The evaluation of selected parameters of humoral
and cellular immunity provides us with information on immune response competence and plays a key role in decision making process regarding the
use of immunomodulation therapy. There can be a major differences according to the actual state of immune system. The paper presents the authors’
own experience with evaluation of the importance of phenotype marks expression in lymphocytes and monocytes in patients with clinical picture of
sepsis related to 28-day mortality. The authors discuss the importance of selected tests for further therapeutic immunomodulatory treatment.
