Summary: Dietary consumption assessment is more difficult in Romany children than in majority of Czech population due to problematic choice of both the method of data collection and the evaluation. In our study we selected the multiple 24-hr. recall with offered serving sizes, dietary consumption was converted into serving equ- ivalents and evaluated in the terms of food groups compared with the recommen- dation. The results of the sample of 551 Romany children of average age 10,9 ± 1,54 yrs documented inadequate consumption of vegetable (19% of recommended amount), fruit (20% of recommendation), milk and milk products (32% of recom- mendation). Also cereals, pasta, bread and rice and the food group of fish, poultry, meat and eggs are eaten in insufficient quantity, 63% and 78% of recommendation, resp. Non-recommended foods are consumed in 463% of tolerable intake. Compa- ring the food preferences and actual consumption was found the negative food choice (preferences are manifested only in food rejection). The dietary consum- ption data of the sample of 551 Romany children should be, according to the authors’ conviction, one of the bases for the setting of population high risk group. The high risk group of Romany children then shoud be treated with very reliable access of primary prevention.
