Summary:
PPARs (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors) are nuclear receptors belonging to transcription factors that participate in the transmission of signals from cytoplasm to nucleus. They háve several isoforms with characteristic structure and some of their natural and synthetic ligands háve been identifíed. PPARs contribute to the pathogenesis of serious illnesses such as diabetes, atherosclerosis and tumors. Current thinking centers on the use of PPAR ligand in the treatment of some tumors through modifying the inhibition of proliferation or induction of apoptosis in tumor cells. This review focuses on carcinogenesis and it describes their potential therapeutics implications.
