The paper presents the main fi ndings of the research on suicidal behaviours in Poland’s society conducted in 1990s. A number of social factors determining suicidal behaviours were described. The general tendency for men to commit suicide more often than women was confi rmed. The relation between methods used for suicide and a sex was found. The main motives of suicidal attempts were also discussed.
