Summary:
The authors refer to their paper Initial experience with Double Combination Treatment of Chro- nic Viral Hepatitis C (preliminary communication) published in Čes. a Slov. Gastroent., 51, 1997, No. 2, p. 52-56. They submit the final evaluation of the effect of double combination treatment in a group of five selected patients. In three patients where rapid normalization of ALT occurred associated with elimination of HCV the response can be evaluated as permanent and the patients are considered cured. In a patient with a partial response HCV elimination was not achieved during treatment and after completed treatment the patient developed an anticipated relapse. In a patient primarily resistant to monotherapy by interferon-alpha the authors observed temporari- ly a complete response, nevertheless a relapse of the disease occurred before the planned termi- nation of treatment.
Key words:
ribavirin – interferon-alpha – chronic viral hepatitis C
