Summary:
Urinary incontinence is one of the most frequent problems affecting mainiy women. There may be millions
patients suffering from it world wide. Interest in this problém has been increasing among specialists as well
as the generál public in the course of the last two decades.
The most frequent types of incontinence seen in generál practice are stress incontinence and overactive
bladder, inciuding urgency of micturition and urge incontinence.
Physiotherapy played a neglieable role in the treatment of incontinence in the past, and was indicated only
for stress incontinence.
In this páper a new concept of both diagnosis and therapy is presented, inciuding physiotherapy and the
authors' personál concept in which physiotherapy plays a key role in treating both stress incontinence and
bladder hyperactivity.
Owing to standaidised diagnostic and therapeutic procedures the effectivity of our method can be tested
according to the principles of evidence based medicine.
