Summary:
The analysis of a group of 26 patients diagnosed as pseudoseizures since April 1997 till December 1998
using video-EEG telemetry and suggestive induction is given. Demographic data and seizure type and
frequency are discussed. The complex character of pathogenic and pathoplastic provocative moments
are shown. Common anamnestic data are divided into three groups: family and marital problems,
physical traumas and drug abuse. Cases of coincidence with true epilepsy and poor yield of routine
EEG in this setting are demonstrated. Furthermore most common complications caused by inapprop-
riate diagnosis and treatment of these patients are analysed. Some technical and diagnostic problems
with induction of a seizure by suggestion are documented in three case-reports.
