Summary:

Objective: Evaluation of results of a new method - ultrasound - guided percutaneous renal biopsy in children. Material and method: 74 biopsies were performed in 61 children during 35 months. Range 1-18 years with average of 12.56 years. Results: All biopsies were diagnostic. In 11 patients it was necessary to repeat biopsy. Minor complications after biopsy were encountered in 14 patients: Average number of glomeruli was 24.3 per sample. Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy is a reliable method with a high diagnostic contribution and small number of complications. There is the advantage of control of position of needle biopsy during the procedure. These results are comparable with data reported in the literature.

Key words: ultrasonography - renal biopsy - complications
