Summary:
Diagnosis and rhinological treatment of nasal liquorrhoea of all etiologies achieved
recently great advances due to more accurate identification of liquor by examination for beta2
transferrin, successful localization of fistulae by CT cisternography and the endoscopic finding of
the fluorescein test. Surgical treatment of liquor fistulae could therefore eliminate radical transcranial
operations and the majority of transfacial ones and apply above all the technique of
endoscopic endonasal surgery. Successful healing of the fistula is achieved by the first operation in
more than 90 % of cases. These operations have a low morbidity and a practically zero mortality.
