Summary:

Abstract purpose: To assess the diagnostic value of static-fluid MR urography for preoperative evaluation of pediatric age group with upper urinary tract obstruction. Material and method: The authors assessed 22 MRU examinations of children from 1 month to 17 years of age with sonographically identified dilatation of upper urinary tract. The results were compared with excretory urography (EU) as a reference method. Results: The quality of MRU examination has been superior to EU in 7 comparative studies, in 5 cases there were less informative than EU and the other were equal. Conclusion: Static-fluid MRU is fast, noninvasive method without ionizing radiation and without possibility of allergic reaction to contrast agent. The quality of examination is independent of functional parametres of the kidney and it is comparable with the excretory urography.
