Characteristics of different enteroviruses and pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical picture and prevention of enteroviral infections are shortly given. In addition, sources of enteroviruses in the environment, survival of enteroviruses in water (in the aquatic environment), methods of enterovirus detection from different types of water and legislation related to drinking and recreation waters are described.
