Summary:
The authors evaluated within the framework of a research project concerned with metabolic risk factors of ischaemic cerebrovascular attacks the incidence of familial dyslipidaemia in families of Subjects who suffered from an ischaemic cerebrovascular attack before the age of 55 years. They examined a group of 266 Subjects - 74 probands, 55 of their siblings, 96 children, 36 spouses, 3 parents and 2 direct grade 2 relations. In the analysis of the familial incidence of risk factors they included 43 families where at least two direct relatives of the probands esere examined. Twenty families (46%) had familial dyslipidaemia. The most frequent form was familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCH) which was recorded in 10 families (50%). In 7 families (35%) it was familial elevation of lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) slone. In 3 families (15%) familial hypertriglyceridaemia (FHTG) was found. In the group of families with familial FCH and FHTG 50% and 33% resp. had a combination with Lp(a). No family was detected with familial hypercholesterolaemia. The authors emphasize the importance of active screening and influencing of lipid abnormalities in the context with primary and secondary prevention in a risk population.
