Summary:
The report has offered a survey of contemporary imaging methods
applicable in the hyperacute phase of ischemic cerebrovascular accident.
There are stressed especially the possibilities of each modality of computed
tomography and of magnetic resonance imaging, their brief technical
description and mainly practical clinical application. To have the full
picture, the authors have also given the basic data concerning singlephoton
emission computed tomography and positron emission
tomography. The report has shown the increasing importance of using the
latest modalities of magnetic resonance imaging when deciding on the
application of reperfusion treatment.
Key words:
ischemic cerebrovascular accident, magnetic resonance imaging,
computerized tomography, single-photon emission tomography, positron
