Summary:
In an investigation implemented in 1997-1998 the problem of dietary habits was
supplemented by a pilot study on the lifestyle. The investigation was made by
means of questionnaires where the questions were selected so as to make the
students reflect on their own health and lifestyle. In the investigation 241 from
1st to 3rd year students of the pedagogical faculty participated. The results
indicate that an effort to live a healthy life is a medium potent factor which
influences in particular the dietary regime of the respondents. It is more marked
in women than in men. The respondents report that they prefer fresh fruit and
raw vegetables, but practice reveals some shortcomings. Even greater are the
shortcomings among our students as regards milk and dairy products consumpti-
on. Almost 66% men and 54% women practically do not consume any milk or dairy
products. As compared with 1980-85 the consumption of meat, smoked meat
products and eggs declined markedly. The investigation revealed that in 48.3%
women and 19.9% men the drinking regimen is not satisfactory. This concerns
those repondents who report a water intake in beverages lower than 2 litres per
day who report consumption of main meals without beverages and who have an
irregular dietary regime. The fact that future teachers who should stimulate
a healthy lifestyle among children comprise 45.3% women and 48.4% men who have
inadequate physical activity.
